It's the summer of 2004, and things are far from going well. After discovering that former best friend, Lex Luthor's obsession with him had only laid dormant, Clark Kent has ended their friendship. This is, of course only the beginning of Lex's inner darkness. Clark was the one who had always kept him somewhat in check. If that wasn't enough, Clark missed his chance to say goodbye to Lana as she left for Paris.
It seems that the only person things are going well for is Lionel Luthor, despise the fact that he is in prison. As Clark embraces his mysterious kryptonian destiny with his biological father, Jor-El, Martha and Jonathon Kent are left alone on their farm, with a strange symbol burned on their field, Lex appears to have choked on his brandy and Chloe Sullivan enter their new home, only to have it blow up. This year Smallville has suffered disatrous traumas.
Lana Lang remains in Paris, where she may have met a new love interest, safe from the knowledge of what has happened in her home town. How long will she last in Paris? Will Lionel squirm out of prison? Has Chloe and her father survived the explosion? Will Lex die of drink poisoning? Is there a hope of Clark ever returning home, where he belongs, in Smallville?
